CASSAVA On Demand Services, a division of Cassava Smartech Zimbabwe, has launched its Vaya Rider service in Bulawayo, and intends to recruit 1 000 active drivers in the region by year-end.
The service, which is similar to the concept developed by American company Uber, was launched in Harare last month.
It works by using a mobile app available for free on the Google and Apple stores, which is connected to the EcoCash mobile money service, or to one’s credit card.
Econet regional general manager for Matabeleland Clemence Kawadza told Standardbusiness in an interview on Thursday that they were targeting 5 000 active drivers in the region.
Kawadza said already they had over 100 drivers registered in the region and more in the pipeline “that are going through the validation and application processes as we have been told, the application has got so many stages including clearance from police and Vehicle Inspection Department and so forth.”–thestandard.co.zw
